The Royal Government of Cambodia is working to reduce carbon emissions from the transport sector as part of its green economy agenda.

Minister of Mines and Energy Keo Rattanak held a consultative meeting with Kensuke Tsuchiya, Chief Executive Officer of Toyota Cambodia, to discuss opportunities for green vehicle deployment in the country.

During the meeting, the two parties exchanged updates on the current production, assembly and domestic market utilisation of Toyota vehicles in Cambodia. Discussions focused on future market development strategies, including the promotion of hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) and battery electric vehicles (EVs) in relation to global clean energy transitions and environmental standards.

The discussions between energy officials and Toyota covered Cambodia's plans to establish a framework for low-emission transport. The wider adoption of hybrid and electric vehicles is intended to reduce reliance on imported fossil fuels, lower urban carbon emissions and support the implementation of the national electric vehicle development framework.

The consultative meeting between the Ministry of Mines and Energy and Toyota Cambodia covered green mobility as part of national energy planning.

Public-private cooperation on hybrid and electric vehicle technologies is intended to reduce environmental impacts, support long-term energy security and contribute to the country's transition towards lower-emission transport.
