Eight new GWM models are scheduled to arrive in Australian showrooms by the end of 2026, including the introduction of its Wey sub-brand and potentially its first car-derived seven-seat SUV.
By December 2026, GWM's Australian line-up will expand to include several new models, including the Ora 5 electric vehicle, the Wey G9 people mover, and the Haval Jolion Max medium SUV. These models will be joined by a new-generation Haval H7 between October and December. The vehicle is expected to become the brand's first car-based seven-seat SUV in Australia and will compete with the Mitsubishi Outlander.
The Haval H7 uses a different platform from the ute (pick-up truck)-based ladder-frame chassis used by GWM's current seven-seat offering, the Tank 500, as well as the discontinued Haval H9. The introduction of the new Haval H7 comes despite the current-generation model only having been launched in Australia as a front-wheel-drive, five-seat hybrid medium SUV in July 2025. This will result in a relatively short lifecycle for the existing model amid lower sales than the Haval H6.
A new 170kW/620Nm 3.0-litre turbo-diesel engine for the Cannon Alpha ute and Tank 500 off-road large SUV is scheduled for launch in September. The Cannon Hi4-T plug-in hybrid ute and the Wey G9 people mover are also expected to arrive during the same month, subject to any delays.
Like the GAC M8 and BYD M9 people movers from China, the Wey G9 is expected to utilise a plug-in hybrid powertrain, combining a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol four-cylinder engine with front and rear electric motors to produce a combined output of 337kW and 644Nm. Additional models from the Wey sub-brand are expected to follow in Australia. Availability will be limited to selected showrooms participating in GWM's dealer investment programme.
The first examples of the Ora 5 small electric SUV have begun arriving in local GWM showrooms, with an official launch scheduled for next month. A lowered Ora 5 hatchback variant, without roof rails, is expected to follow later this year.
A GWM Australia spokesperson stated that the Ora 5 hybrid is "under consideration" for Australian showrooms in SUV form, with a possible launch before the end of this year. The Ora 5 hybrid SUV combines a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine with an electric motor, similar to the Haval H6 medium SUV, and has already been homologated for the Australian market.
Combined fuel consumption is rated at 5.0L/100km under the WLTP laboratory test cycle, which becomes mandatory for newly introduced vehicles in Australia from July 1st, 2026. The spokesperson also confirmed that the GWM Ora 5 Touring is "under consideration" for Australia. The wagon-bodied model is expected to make its global debut in Europe in the coming months.
Beyond 2026, a new-generation Haval H6 is scheduled to launch in Australia between January and March 2027 with hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains. These variants may be joined by a carry-over 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine, depending on whether GWM can continue to comply with Australia's New Vehicle Efficiency Standard (NVES), which establishes CO2 targets for newly imported vehicles.
Other new GWM models under consideration for the Australian market include a V8-powered Tank 700, likely to coincide with the launch of a new-generation or significantly updated version that would enable an Australian introduction, as well as the Wey V9X plug-in hybrid SUV. Both vehicles could become the first GWM models in Australia to exceed the AUD 100,000 (US$ 68,950) price threshold.
Diesel-electric hybrid and plug-in hybrid models are also expected to arrive in Australian showrooms within the next 12 to 18 months, following the launch of the Chery Stockman, which is due before the end of this year as Australia's first diesel plug-in hybrid ute.
GWM's localised suspension and steering calibration programme, known as 'AT-1', will continue to be introduced across the model range. The updates have already been applied to the current Haval H6 and Tank 500 plug-in hybrid models.
Earlier this year, the company launched the Tank 300 Hi4-T plug-in hybrid, alongside the diesel and conventional hybrid variants, as well as an updated version of the Haval H6 GT plug-in hybrid. Despite the introduction of new models, GWM Australia has recently discontinued several vehicles, including the Haval H6 GT petrol, the Tank 500 conventional hybrid, and the Ora electric hatchback, which has been replaced by the Ora 5.
The Cannon Alpha conventional hybrid ute was also discontinued in Australia last year, 18 months after its early 2024 launch, following the arrival of the plug-in hybrid version. The current 2.4-litre turbo-diesel engine in the Cannon Alpha will be replaced by the 3.0-litre unit when it is introduced in September.
