Isuzu begins local production of D-Max EV
Just Auto, 20 May '25
Isuzu Motors has commenced mass production of its new battery-powered D-Max pickup truck in Thailand, with shipments of left-hand-drive models to Europe scheduled to begin in the third quarter of 2025.
The model was first unveiled at the 45th Bangkok International Motor Show just over a year ago.
Isuzu confirmed that production of right-hand-drive models will not begin until the end of 2025, which means deliveries to domestic customers and key markets in Southeast Asia, Australia, New Zealand, and the UK will commence in 2026.
The new D-Max EV features a full-time 4WD system incorporating the company's newly developed "e-Axles" at both the front and rear. The system provides linear acceleration typical of EVs while minimising noise and vibration.
The towing capacity and payload are supported by electric motors and a frame and body design that allow the D-Max EV to match the performance of existing diesel models.
Isuzu launched an upgraded version of its diesel-powered D-Max and Mu-X SUV derivative in the fourth quarter of 2024, with revised interior and exterior designs, additional safety systems, upgraded 2.2-litre diesel engines, and a new 8-speed automatic transmission.
