MG Motor Australia has announced local pricing and specifications for its first ute (pick-up truck), the MGU9, confirming three trim levels - Explore, Explore X, and Explore Pro - for both the Australian and New Zealand markets.
Prices range between AUD 55,000 and AUD 65,000 (US$ 36,300-42,900) in Australia and between NZD 65,000 and NZD 75,000 (US$ 38,900-44,600) in New Zealand. The model has been benchmarked for Australasian conditions, combining the durability expected of a ute with technology and comfort similar to modern SUVs.
The MGU9 interior includes up to 32 storage compartments and MultiFold seating upholstered in vegan leather. The rear seats fold flat, creating a cabin-to-tub pass-through when paired with MG's optional Smart Hatch system. The front passenger seat can also fold back to form an extended flat surface for transporting long items.
The Smart Hatch, standard on the Explore Pro, allows the rear cabin window to retract electronically, increasing load-carrying flexibility. The cabin layout features an aircraft-style gear selector. The infotainment system, with a horizontal screen and vertical air vents, supports voice activation.
Storage is integrated into the centre console, including a sliding compartment and concealed cupholders. The official launch of the MGU9 in Australia and New Zealand will be detailed in the coming months, with final pricing, delivery schedules, and warranty information to be confirmed.
The MGU9 range has been developed to meet the requirements of commercial operators and private buyers requiring a practical ute for family, work, or recreational use.
