Manila Standard Today, 20 May '25
SM Prime Holdings (SM Prime), an integrated property developer in Southeast Asia, has installed 131 electric vehicle (EV) charging stations across its nationwide portfolio as of the first quarter of 2025.
The company plans to install at least 50 additional stations within the year.
EV charging stations have been deployed across its malls and office developments to support low-emission transport.
Future installations are planned for its residential communities and leisure estates to increase access to EV charging across its property portfolio.
As a Department of Energy-accredited Electric Vehicle Charging Station (EVCS) Provider-Operator, SM Prime ensures its facilities comply with national standards and safety protocols.
Sustainable practices are included in SM Prime's long-term operational strategy. This initiative aligns with the government's objectives for an inclusive and future-ready EV ecosystem.
The Department of Energy's (DOE) roadmap targets a 25% EV share in the passenger vehicle market by 2030, increasing to 50% by 2040, with plans to deploy a sufficient number of charging stations nationwide between 2023 and 2040.
SM Prime supports the DOE's programme to reduce the country's carbon emissions.
With its footprint and ongoing investments in property developments and green technologies, SM Prime is involved in the country's low-carbon transition.
The company's expanding EV charging network is part of changes in the national transport infrastructure and urban development. The expansion of the EV charging network aims to facilitate wider adoption of electric vehicles.
