Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indonesia (TMMIN) has confirmed that it will start the production of hybrid car (hybrid electric vehicle or HEV) in 2022.
Bob Azam, director of administration, corporation and external relations, TMMIN, said that domestic hybrid car production will take the basis of models that have been produced and marketed in Indonesia. "I say that next year we will start to launch domestic productions with hybrid technology, so we will build on the existing models. "We will see what kind of hybrid is the most possible model," said Bob in a virtual event to celebrate Toyota's 50th anniversary in Indonesia, recently.
Later, Toyota hybrid car production will not only be marketed for the domestic market, but also for export. "Hopefully delivery will start next year," said Bob. Meanwhile, domestic production of motorized vehicles with hybrid technology is an effort to support the national electrification programme. Production of these vehicles will be carried out at the Toyota factory, Karawang, West Java.
Toyota Indonesia began introducing electrification technology since 2009 by presenting the Prius plug-in hybrid (PHEV). Since then, Toyota has continued to fulfill the electrification segment in the country. Currently, Toyota is selling 10 electrified models, ranging from hybrids, PHEVs, and battery electric cars. These models include the Prius PHEV, Camry Hybrid, Corolla Cross Hybrid, Corolla Altis Hybrid, Alphard Hybrid, and Lexus UX 300e.
