Autocar Professional, 12 May '25
Uno Minda has announced plans to establish a new manufacturing facility for two-wheeler alloy wheels in Bawal, Haryana, with an investment of approximately Rs. 2 billion (US$ 24 million).
The company's Board of Directors has approved the project, which will have an installed production capacity of 1.5 million alloy wheels annually.
The investment will be financed through a combination of debt and internal accruals, with operations expected to commence by the second quarter of FY 2027. The expansion follows the securing of recent orders and increasing market demand for two-wheeler alloy wheels.
At the same time, Uno Minda has commenced commercial production at its expansion project in Supa, Maharashtra, which will add 2 million wheels to its annual production capacity. This expansion was initially announced in May 2024.
The company entered the two-wheeler alloy wheel segment in FY 2021 with a greenfield facility in Supa, Maharashtra, starting with an initial capacity of 4 million wheels. Since then, Uno Minda has nearly doubled the capacity of its Supa facility to 8 million units.
Upon completion of the new Bawal facility, Uno Minda's total installed capacity for two-wheeler alloy wheels will increase to approximately 9.5 million wheels per annum.
These expansions align with the government's 'Make in India' initiative, as the company has contributed to reducing the country's dependence on imported two-wheeler alloy wheels through continued investment and a focus on localisation.
Established in 1958, Uno Minda is an automotive components manufacturer with 74 manufacturing facilities across six countries and 37 R&D centres worldwide.
