BYD Motor Indonesia has officially announced the pricing of its latest plug-in hybrid (PHEV) multi-purpose vehicle (MPV), the M6 DM, with prices starting at IDR 298 million (US$ 16,870).

It is a family-oriented MPV featuring Dual Mode (DM) technology that integrates electrified and hybrid driving systems.

Pricing and variants

The M6 DM is offered in five variants, with on-the-road (OTR) prices in Jakarta as follows:

- Classic Standard: IDR 298 million
- Classic Dynamic: IDR 318 million
- Cross Advanced: IDR 360 million
- Cross Superior: IDR 380 million
- Cross Superior Captain: IDR 390 million

The entry price of IDR 298 million has been described as positioned within the PHEV segment.

Market positioning and MPV relevance

President Director of BYD Motor Indonesia, Eagle Zhao, stated that MPVs have a significant role in the Indonesian automotive market, accounting for more than 30% of total national vehicle sales. He noted that MPVs are used by families and business users due to their suitability for different mobility needs.

"MPVs are used by families and business users and are considered suitable for a variety of mobility needs," Zhao said at the launch event in Jakarta on June 12th.

Zhao also stated that BYD's Dual Mode technology reflects development work. "Last month, BYD introduced DM (Dual Mode) technology, which presents a vehicle that is efficient and fuel-efficient. This technology is the result of more than two decades of research and development conducted by more than 120,000 BYD engineers around the world," he said.

Design and seating configuration

The M6 DM retains a conventional family MPV layout and offers seating for up to seven passengers. The manufacturer has tailored the M6 DM for the Indonesian market, according to the Head of Marketing, PR & Government of BYD Indonesia, Luther T. Panjaitan.

"The M6 DM is prepared for the Indonesian market," he said in Jakarta on June 12th, 2026.

Dual Mode (DM) technology

The M6 DM is built on BYD's Dual Mode (DM) architecture, which integrates electric and hybrid propulsion within a single platform. The electric motor serves as the primary drive source, while the petrol engine supports energy supply and efficiency when required.

The system enables the vehicle to switch between EV, series, and parallel operating modes through a 7-in-1 integrated control system.

Powertrain and performance

The MPV is powered by a 1.5-litre petrol engine producing 72 kW and 125 Nm of torque. This is paired with an EHS 5.0 electric motor capable of reaching up to 15,000 rpm and delivering higher power density.

BYD states that the vehicle can switch between driving modes using its integrated system, supporting efficiency and performance across different driving conditions.

Battery system

The vehicle is equipped with BYD's Blade Battery, designed for high cycle endurance and stable performance under high-temperature conditions.
