The government is pushing for the development of an automotive segment that will cater to the needs of the C and D markets.

"We have not yet gone into details on this. We're still identifying the affordability range of the C and D markets, so we don't have yet a price range," Board of Investments executive director Lucita Reyes said Thursday during a forum sponsored by the Automobile Association of the Philippines.

She said the government was focused on improving completely knocked-down manufacturing to ensure the availability of quality and affordable CKD vehicles to the mass market.

The government, she said, was not bullish on the alternative fuels market, adding its interest was in low-priced vehicles.

"We're looking at fuel efficiency for the C and D class. A vehicle that is aligned with the industry roadmap. Right now, we're not so much into alternative fuels although they will be considered along the way," Reyes said.

The government is also looking at non-fiscal measures that will spur and boost the market for CKD production.
