Deepal S05 to remain CBU as Changan evaluates local assembly
Kompas Otomotif, 8 Jul '26
Changan Automobile Indonesia has confirmed that the Deepal S05 will be marketed in Indonesia as a completely built-up (CBU) model, with all units imported fully assembled from Thailand.
Head of Marketing at Changan Indonesia, Ridjal Mulyadi, stated that the import arrangement applies to all S05 variants, including both the battery electric vehicle (BEV) and range-extended electric vehicle (REEV) versions.
"The S05 is a CBU from Thailand, for both BEV and REEV variants. We do not know yet whether it will be produced domestically, so it will be studied first and adjusted according to our production capacity," Ridjal said in Sukabumi, West Java, on July 7th, 2026.
Ridjal said that company has not yet determined when the S05 will be assembled in Indonesia. The company is continuing to evaluate the possibility, taking into account the production capacity it shares with the Indomobil Group. According to him, the decision will depend on market demand and the capabilities of the available production facilities.
"We will study it and adjust it to our production capacity at the Indomobil Group. Initially, the Lumin and S07 were also assembled under the CKD scheme," Ridjal said.
Previously, company assembled two of its models in Indonesia, the Lumin and the Deepal S07, under a completely knocked down (CKD) scheme. The company is currently assessing whether to introduce local assembly of the S05.
For the time being, brand will continue supplying the S05 directly from Thailand while monitoring market demand following the model's launch in Indonesia.
