Honda to boost CR-V production in July
Automotive News China, 6 Jul '11

Dongfeng Honda Automobile will restore production of the CR-V compact SUV to normal levels in July, reports the automotive Web site a media source.

The joint venture had reduced production after the March 11th earthquake in Japan disrupted Honda's suppliers. May sales of the CR-V - the perennial top-selling SUV in China - plunged 51 percent from the year-earlier period to 5,000 units. By contrast, industry sales in that segment rose 2 percent in May.

It appears that Honda Motor and its suppliers are recovering more quickly than expected from the disaster. Last month, Honda said its China plants would return to normal production in August.

The Japanese automaker has two Chinese joint ventures: Dongfeng Honda and Guangzhou Honda Automobile. In 2010, Honda sold 646,660 vehicles in China, up 12 percent on an annual basis, according to a media source.
