Isuzu to produce EFL in Indonesia
Antara, 15 Mar '13

Isuzu Astra Motor Indonesia will produce the ELF Isuzu NQR 71 locally, which is expected to capture a significant share of the medium bus market.

The company feels that it can even be a replacement model for existing bus fleets and Metro Mini or Kopaja that have worn out.

"ELF NQR could replace Metro Mini, Kopaja and even be a feeder busway," said General Manager Marketing Isuzu Astra Motor Indonesia Edy Jusuf Oekasah told media on 14th March. Edy said that Isuzu has a strong commitment to work on the commercial vehicle market in Indonesia, including secondary markets such as Metro Mini buses and Kopaja. Isuzu is now planning a comprehensive sales strategy.

Edy is optimistic that ELF products such as the NQR flagship model will be the favourite choice to replace the Mini Metro and Kopaja buses that are already old.

He revealed three main reasons to enter the segment:

- the first, since passenger capacity of the ELF NQR is great.
- second, the ELF has a strong reputation in the market as a flagship model for Isuzu.
- third, the plan is in line with the governor Joko Widodo who plans to rejuvenate public transport and Metro Mini, Kopaja and also TransJakarta.

It was the government's measures to improve the administration of public transport services. The ELF Isuzu NQR 71 uses 6 tyres and is able to carry 30-35 passengers. The model has advantages such as power steering, brake booster hydraulic and special suspension for passengers.

The NQR 71 has the longest wheelbase in its class and a stabiliser at front/rear, making it more stable when driving.
