In recent years, Lexus has maintained a steadfast commitment to its "Lexus Electrified" vision, focusing on the simultaneous development of various power sources in Taiwan.
This includes traditional fuel-powered vehicles, HEV hybrid power, PHEV plug-in petrol-electric power, and BEV pure electric vehicles.
Petrol-electric vehicles, in particular, have gained immense popularity, with the UX 250h standing out as the brand's best-selling model. With the imminent release of the small SUV LBX in Taiwan on January 17th, Lexus is strategically adjusting its focus on entry-level models, placing a strong emphasis on petrol-electric vehicles.
The LBX marks a significant milestone as Lexus's first model developed based on the GA-B module architecture. Equipped with a 1.5-litre petrol-electric hybrid power system and a new bipolar nickel-metal hydride battery module, it boasts a maximum combined horsepower of 136 PS and an outstanding energy-saving performance of 26.4 km/L. Pre-sales have already commenced, with prices ranging from NTD 1.33 million to NTD 1.72 million. (US$ 42,900 - 55,500)
Regarding the entry-level UX model, the original UX 250h petrol-electric hybrid, which has been a key player in sales, is poised for a power composition adjustment in the new year. Adopting a new fifth-generation petrol-electric system architecture, it will be replaced by the UX 300h, promising enhanced performance output. Meanwhile, the original fuel model UX 200, officially discontinued in Japan, will phase out after selling existing inventory.
Lexus aims to exclusively offer electrified options within the price range of NTD 1.7 million, showcasing its commitment to making fuel-electric hybrid power the brand's primary focus.
This strategic shift not only promises improved fuel consumption performance but also positions Lexus for a distinctive brand identity.
Furthermore, the brand is gearing up for potential launches in the pure electric product series, demonstrating a forward-thinking approach to create a comprehensive electrified product line-up.
