Mobil Anak Bangsa (MAB) is continuing to expand its electric vehicle business operations in Indonesia.
After establishing an assembly facility in Demak, Central Java, the company is now preparing a new factory in Pandaan, Pasuruan Regency, East Java. The new facility will focus on assembling commercial electric vehicles, including medium-duty and heavy-duty electric trucks for mining applications.
Senior Marketing Manager Communication at MAB, Achmad Rofiqi, said the location was selected because of its strategic position between two major cities in East Java.
"It's located in Pandaan, Pasuruan Regency. It's about an hour from Surabaya, and also about an hour from Malang, so it's located between Malang and Surabaya," Rofiqi told media in Bekasi, West Java, recently.
According to him, the acquired land covers approximately five hectares and is targeted to begin operations by the end of June 2026.
"It covers 5 hectares. We hope to start operations by the end of June (2026). In fact, we've been preparing for the acquisition since last year," he said.
Rofiqi explained that the facility was previously operated by a bodywork company before being acquired by MAB to support the development of commercial electric vehicles.
"The facility used to be a bodywork company. Since it's been put into receivership, we've taken it over and turned it into a dedicated assembly facility for our EV medium and heavy trucks," he said.
The expansion reflects MAB's efforts to strengthen its commercial electric vehicle portfolio in Indonesia, particularly in the logistics and mining sectors, where the adoption of zero-emission vehicles is increasing. To support product development, MAB has also partnered with Yutong.
"For the development with Yutong, we have also signed a cooperation agreement with them, so, we're currently conducting trials using EVs in several mining areas, and the results are quite encouraging," said Rofiqi.
The initiative forms part of MAB's strategy to expand the use of commercial electric vehicles in the heavy industry sector while supporting the transition towards cleaner energy in Indonesia.
