Eurokars Motor Indonesia (EMI) has indicated that the inauguration of Mazda's assembly plant in Indonesia will take place in the near future.
Although the exact date has not yet been disclosed, Ricky Thio, Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Eurokars Motor Indonesia and President Director of Mazda Indonesia, confirmed that invitations to the inauguration will be distributed soon.
"Of course, (it will be officially inaugurated soon). What I'm saying is, the invitations will be sent out soon," Ricky said in Jakarta on July 15th, 2026. The development of Mazda's production facility in Indonesia is ongoing.
EMI previously announced that it is building the factory in West Java with an investment of approximately IDR 400 billion (US$ 22.4 million). The establishment of a local assembly facility is intended to support Mazda's operations in Indonesia. In addition to improving distribution efficiency, local production is expected to reduce reliance on imported vehicles.
Previously, EMI stated that one of the models to be assembled in Indonesia would be from the compact sport utility vehicle (SUV) segment.
"(The model that will be produced) will be revealed later, after it's opened. Not now," Ricky said.
The model is expected to be in the same segment as the Mazda CX-3 or Mazda CX-5, although its identity has not been officially announced.
Currently, Mazda's entire model range sold in Indonesia is imported as completely built-up (CBU) units. Models such as the CX-5, CX-30, CX-60, CX-9 and Mazda3 Hatchback are imported directly from Japan.
Meanwhile, the Mazda CX-3 and CX-8 are sourced from Thailand, while several other models are imported from Malaysia. Once the new factory becomes operational, Mazda is expected to reduce its reliance on imported vehicles.
