Mitsubishi to launch all-new Destinator SUV soon
Car Guide, 27 Aug '25
Just weeks after its global debut in Indonesia, Mitsubishi Motors Philippines appears to be preparing for the local launch of the all-new Mitsubishi Destinator, a seven-seater compact SUV designed to appeal to Filipino families.
With heightened activity on the brand's social media channels, speculation is increasing that the Destinator will soon make its official Philippine debut, particularly given the country's position as one of Mitsubishi's most important global markets.
A strategic new addition
Positioned between the Xpander Cross and the Montero Sport in Mitsubishi's local line-up, the Destinator bridges two of the most competitive segments in the Philippine automotive market: compact crossovers and seven-seater SUVs.
First revealed in concept form in the Philippines in 2024, the production version rides on the same platform as the Xpander and the Xforce. Suspension is managed by MacPherson struts at the front and a torsion beam at the rear, with tuning revisions for improved straight-line stability and enhanced ride comfort, benefiting both long-distance travel and urban use.
With 244 mm of ground clearance and off-road geometry featuring a 21 degree approach angle, 20.8 degree breakover angle, and 25.5 degree departure angle, the Destinator offers versatility beyond paved roads.
Turbocharged performance
The model is powered by a turbocharged 1.5-litre 4B40 MIVEC engine, producing 163 PS (120 kW) and 250 Nm of torque. Equipped with a water-cooled intercooler and operating on an Atkinson combustion cycle for greater efficiency, power is delivered to the front wheels via a CVT. Mitsubishi's Active Yaw Control system is included, offering five driving modes, including "Tarmac" for sportier dynamics, a first in the brand's crossover line-up.
Generous dimensions, dynamic design
Measuring 4,680 mm in length, 1,840 mm in width, and 1,780 mm in height, with a 2,815 mm wheelbase, the Destinator provides spacious accommodation across three rows. Its styling reflects Mitsubishi's latest design language, with a bold Dynamic Shield front fascia, T-shaped LED headlamps and taillamps, and 18-inch alloy wheels fitted with 225/55 R18 tyres. A panoramic sunroof, the first for Mitsubishi in this segment, enhances its premium appeal.
Smart interior, premium features
The cabin features:
12.3-inch Smart-Link Display Audio touchscreen
8-inch fully digital gauge cluster
Dual-zone automatic climate control with ceiling-mounted rear vents
64-colour ambient lighting
Yamaha premium dynamic sound speaker system
Heat-reflective seating
Practicality has been prioritised with flexible seat arrangements (40/20/40 split for the second row and 50/50 split for the third row), fold-flat capability, and smart storage options, including a seatback tray, multi-compartment seatback pockets, and an under-seat storage tray.
Local launch timeline
Mitsubishi Motors Philippines is finalising preparations for the local introduction of the new Xpander and Xpander Cross on August 29th, 2025. Based on previous launches, the Destinator is expected to be previewed before the end of the year, potentially as early as September or October 2025, with retail availability scheduled for January 2026.
