Perak, Proton to revive Tanjung Malim as national auto hub
Bernama, 8 Jan '13

The Perak state government under its Perak Amanjaya vision will revive plans to develop Tanjung Malim into Malaysia's national automotive industry hub in a move that is expected to bring substantial impact to the state's economy within five years.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr. Zambry Abdul Kadir said although previous efforts have almost failed, the state government will revive the initiative with several meetings with the Proton management.

"I have already met with the Proton management, and after several discussions, Proton has made a decision to revive Tanjung Malim," he told reporters after an Executive Talk to some 3,000 state civil servants in Ipoh.

He said Proton will move its manufacturing operations in stages from Shah Alam to the Proton City township in Tanjung Malim.

The company's 517.12 ha. plant in Proton City, which opened in August 2004 and now manufactures the Proton Persona, Gen2 and Preve models, is five times larger than its Shah Alam plant, which has an annual production capacity of 150,000 units.
