Ssangyong to bring three new models to China in September
Gasgoo, 19 Aug '11

Ssangyong has conducted an official test drive event last week, where CEO Zhang Baojiang announced that the manufacturer will bring three new models to China next month, a media source reported today.

Ssangyong will begin selling the Korando, Actyon and Rexton in its dealers across the country, with Mr. Zhang commenting that the Korando will be the manufacturer's star model.

Ssangyong aims to take advantage of China's desire for diesel-powered SUVs. According to reports, there is enough of a margin in the market for Ssangyong to sell 200,000 to 300,000 SUVs.

If that estimate is accurate, Ssangyong can afford to price its vehicles between 200,000 and 300,000 yuan (US$ 31,398-US$ 47,097). Official pricing will be announced in September after being agreed on by Ssangyong and Chinese companies Pangda and SCAS.

Despite its product plans having been laid in place, Ssangyong still lacks the full dealer network it needs to maximize sales. The manufacturer is currently in the process of preparing the 30 plus 4S dealers it has in the north of the country for the new models.

By the end of the year Ssangyong plans to have 50 dealers active in China, with that number increasing to 80 and 100 in 2012 and 2013, respectively. "Everything is going according to plan," Mr. Zhang stated when asked about the manufacturer's strategy for Beijing.
