On December 19th, Pham Nhat Vuong, the founder and chairman of Vingroup, the parent company of VinFast, announced the complete cessation of the use of VF8 cars in the Xanh SM Luxury taxi service.
This decision underscores the intention to position the VF8 as a premium vehicle from the Vietnamese automaker.
According to a press release, the entire fleet of VF8 vehicles previously used in the Xanh SM Luxury service will be transferred to FGF - For Green Future, a company managed by Pham Nhat Minh Hoang, the son of Pham Nhat Vuong.
The transfer process is expected to be completed by February 2025. After the transfer, FGF will provide leasing services for the VF8 or sell the vehicles directly to customers.
A representative of Pham Nhat Vuong stated that the decision to remove the VF8 from the taxi service is a strategic move, following a sufficient period for customer evaluation.
This move ensures that the VF8 aligns with the company's core objective of positioning it within the premium market segment, catering to high-profile customers and reflecting the quality of the product.
Previously, the VF8 was used in the Xanh SM Luxury taxi service alongside the VFe34 and VF5 models, which were part of the standard Xanh SM service.
The VF8 features an electric motor with a power output of 349-402 PS and is equipped with various smart features, including an AI-powered virtual assistant. The vehicle's battery allows for a driving range of up to 471 km per charge.
With regard to the Xanh SM service, the company will standardise and offer three main electric vehicle transportation services: Economy, using the Mini Green vehicle; Standard, with the 4-seat Hero Green vehicle; and Premium, featuring the Neo Green vehicle and the 7-seat LimoGreen.
Drivers who were previously using the VF8 in the Xanh SM Luxury service will be temporarily reassigned to the VF5 or VFe34 models to continue their work.
