Making its Malaysian debut is the 2024 Yamaha MT-09, priced at MYR 57,998 (US$ 13,500), excluding road tax, insurance, and registration.
This price reflects an increase of MYR 3,000 compared to the 2022 Yamaha MT-09. Two colour options are available: Midnight Cyan and Tech Black, with stock arriving at all authorised Hong Long Yamaha dealers from October 15th.
The price increase is justified by the addition of new riding aids and features, along with improvements in riding comfort and handling. The bodywork has been redesigned, including the fuel tank and sub-frame, to provide a more forward, aggressive riding position and a slimmer silhouette.
New for 2024, the MT-09 features three riding modes: Sport, Street, and Rain, which replace the previous Mode A, Standard, and Mode B. There are also two customisable modes that allow riders to adjust the parameters to suit their specific riding styles and road conditions.
Cruise control has been introduced, with functions managed via an intuitive control switch on the left handlebar pod. The five-inch TFT-LCD display, switchable between four themes, comes standard with Yamaha Y-Connect and Garmin StreetCross. With Bluetooth connectivity to the rider's smartphone, the instrument panel displays information such as incoming calls, text messages, and more.
By installing the free Garmin StreetCross app on their smartphones, riders can access real-time traffic information and full map navigation directly on the instrument panel. Additionally, a USB-C port is now standard for charging electronic devices.
Riding ergonomics have also been improved with adjustable handlebars and foot pegs, creating a more unified riding posture that reduces fatigue during long journeys and enhances overall control of the MT-09.
The suspension features 41 mm diameter upside-down forks, while the rear mono-shock now includes a revised spring rate for better handling. The front brake master cylinder is supplied by Brembo, equipped with twin hydraulic callipers on the front wheel, while the rear features a single hydraulic calliper and disc.
There are no changes to the engine; power is provided by the Yamaha Crossplane 3 inline three-cylinder engine, rated at 119 PS at 10,000 rpm with 93 Nm of torque at 7,000 rpm. The MT-09 weighs in at 193 kg and has a fuel tank capacity of 14-litres, with a seat height set at 820 mm.
