The Indonesian automotive market is expected to become more competitive with the entry of new manufacturers from China.
Indomobil Group, one of Indonesia's automotive distribution companies, has confirmed plans to introduce two Chinese car brands, Hongqi and Leapmotor.
The addition of these brands reflects the continued expansion of Chinese automotive manufacturers in Indonesia, supported by the range of technologies they offer.
Indomobil Group Director Andrew Nasuri stated that both brands are included in the company's launch plans for the second half of 2026.
"As we all know, two more Chinese brands will join the group this year: Hongqi and Leapmotor," Andrew said during an interaction in Guangzhou, China, on April 21st, 2026.
He added that technical preparations are currently underway to ensure that both brands comply with Indonesian regulations and market requirements.
"Hongqi will be introduced in July 2026, while Leapmotor will be introduced in August 2026. Both are currently undergoing testing and have entered the homologation stage," he said.
Leapmotor is a technology company focused on smart electric vehicles (EVs), with in-house software development capabilities and a product portfolio ranging from compact city cars to sport utility vehicles.
Hongqi, in contrast, operates in the luxury vehicle segment. It is China's oldest luxury car brand and has historically been used for official government purposes. The brand now offers a range of premium vehicles, including both internal combustion engine and electric models.
