Malaysia's automotive industry is expected to expand beyond vehicle assembly and distribution into the development of mobility technologies, services and regional solutions as the country pursues its transportation sector objectives.
Deputy Transport Minister Datuk Hasbi Habibollah said the shift is taking place as the global transportation sector undergoes changes driven by electrification, connected technologies, intelligent transport systems, automation and alternative energy solutions.
"Malaysia is well positioned to be a regional hub for next-generation mobility. We have a strong automotive ecosystem, a growing base of skilled talent, strategic connectivity within ASEAN, and a clear policy direction to support sustainable, technology-driven and high-value mobility solutions," he said.
Hasbi said Malaysia has introduced national development frameworks such as the National Automotive Policy 2020 and the New Industrial Master Plan 2030, which aim to support industrial development and mobility-related industries.
He said the automotive and mobility industry contributes to employment, investment, innovation and supply chain activities. Hasbi was speaking at the launch of the Kuala Lumpur International Mobility Show (KLIMS) 2026 at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC) today.
Also present were Deputy Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Minister Syed Ibrahim Syed Noh and Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry Secretary-General Datuk Hairil Yahri Yaacob.
The event is organised by the Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA) and managed by Qube Integrated Malaysia. KLIMS 2026 will feature mobility-related products and technologies from global and local brands under the theme "Beyond Mobility".
More than 900 guests attended the opening ceremony, which featured model previews, vehicle launches and concept vehicle displays.
The exhibition will run from June 12th to June 21st at MITEC. Visitors can participate in prize draws with prizes worth a total of MYR 125,000 (US$ 30,770), including a Perodua Bezza.
