Stellantis has confirmed 12 Citroen and Jeep model launches in India by 2030 under its 'FaSTLAne 2030' roadmap, with the first model scheduled to go on sale by the second quarter of 2027.
Speaking to media sources at the 2026 Paris Motor Show, Tianshu Xin, head of Stellantis China and Asia-Pacific, said, "The plan is to introduce 12 new models in three years. Seven of them will be new, and five are upgrades." Maserati, which also operates under Stellantis India, is excluded from the plan, potentially reflecting its focus on a specialised, low-volume market segment.
Xin also addressed the proposed entry of Stellantis's Chinese electric vehicle (EV) brand, Leapmotor, into India. Although the company had planned to introduce the brand in 2025, the launch did not take place. Xin said the proposal remained under evaluation and would require sufficient "volume potential to justify the business case". A decision will be made once the business case is "proven and solid".
Upcoming Jeep models: five launches planned
Jeep, which currently sells the Compass, Meridian, Grand Cherokee and Wrangler in India, has five launches planned. Stellantis India CEO Shailesh Hazela told media sources that the new products would expand the brand's presence across several segments, including midsize SUVs, and introduce a premium pickup truck.
"There will be new products, which will be coming from, I would say, B-segment, C-segment, D-segment and D pickup. All those will be the new products," he said.
The roadmap is also expected to include a new Jeep midsize SUV based on Tata's Sierra ARGOS platform, previously reported exclusively. Similar to the Tata Sierra and Sierra EV, it could be offered with internal combustion and electric powertrains, with a market launch planned for the first half of 2028.
Hazela confirmed that an electric Jeep was under development for India but did not disclose its launch timeline, specifications or manufacturing location. It could be an electric version of the SUV based on the ARGOS platform.
Asked whether every Jeep sold in India would have at least one four-wheel-drive variant, Hazela said the company would seek to offer this option because of its importance to the brand, although he did not confirm its availability across the entire range.
On localisation, Hazela cited Citroen's experience as a reference for Jeep's future development. He said Citroen's India-developed products had achieved 95% localisation, including engines and transmissions, while "keeping the premiumness, keeping the DNA" through the use of locally sourced components.
Upcoming Citroen models: seven launches planned
The company is expected to account for seven of the 12 planned launches, potentially including a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) and an A-segment car. Its current Indian line-up comprises the C3, eC3, Aircross, Basalt and C5 Aircross. The brand will also lead Stellantis's further development of compressed natural gas (CNG) offerings. The eC3 remains its immediate EV focus, while Hazela declined to confirm whether an electric Aircross was planned.
Alongside new products, brand is increasing local and dealer-led marketing activities and developing more cost-competitive showroom and service formats. Hazela said, "We will be investing not only in product, not only in manufacturing, not only in localisation but also in increasing our customer experience."
Asked whether the brand's initial approach had prioritised cost-cutting at the expense of features customers expected, Hazela acknowledged that the company had learnt from the experience.
"Giving what customers need is our philosophy. Whatever we do, we do it for the customer. And you rightly said, we learned, we improved, and we are back," he said.
Multi-powertrain strategy to include ICE, EVs and hybrids
Stellantis India plans to expand the powertrain options available across Citroen and Jeep to include internal combustion engines (ICE), hybrids, EVs and CNG. However, the company has not specified which technologies will feature in individual models. Hazela said, "India is not just one kind of customer. We have to have options, and we will be providing options, including ICE, hybrid, EV and CNG."
The company is also considering sourcing powertrains from external suppliers rather than bearing the entire development cost independently. Asked about the possibility, Hazela said, "It's an option which is on the table."
Stellantis is evaluating local and global partnerships for hybrid technology, as well as sourcing opportunities through free trade agreements (FTAs). Hazela said developing such technologies was expensive and outlined two possible approaches: acquiring technology from other countries through FTAs or establishing partnerships locally and globally. "So every option is being worked out," he said.
Citroen and Jeep have faced difficulties attracting buyers in India in recent years. The planned launches, expanded powertrain choices, greater localisation and investment in customer experience are intended to broaden their portfolios and could influence their sales performance and market positions.
