Hyundai developing ix25 SUV for China

Media sources have revealed that Hyundai is developing the ix25, a brand new entry-level SUV, for the China car market. The ix25 will debut for the April 2014 Beijing Auto Show and will be launched in the first half of 2014. It will be made in China by the Beijing-Hyundai joint venture to compete with small SUVs such as the Ford EcoSport and the upcoming Volkswagen Taigun. The ix25 will be based on the platform of the Kia Soul, which is made in China by the Dongfeng-Yueda-Kia joint venture. The Soul is priced from 103,800 yuan to 127,800 yuan, and powered by a 125hp 1.6. The design of the ix25 will be inspired by the 2011 Hyundai Curb concept. The Hyundai ix25 will get the same 1.6 and also a 1.4, both mated to a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic. The price will start around 95,000 yuan (US$ 15,500).
