Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif recently launched Pakistan's first national electric vehicle policy, the New Energy Vehicle (NEV) Policy 2025-30.
The NEV Policy 2025-30 includes subsidies for electric vehicles, intended to make electric mobility more widely accessible.
The Prime Minister stated that the transition to clean mobility is both a climate requirement and an economic opportunity, noting that it would reduce dependence on fossil fuel imports while aligning Pakistan with global low-carbon growth initiatives.
He acknowledged the assistance of the UK government and other international partners in shaping the policy and noted the role of the Ministry of Industries in its development.
Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Industries and Production, Haroon Akhtar Khan, stated that the transition to electric vehicles could generate employment opportunities, reduce petroleum consumption, and contribute to Pakistan's industrial development.
Federal Minister for National Food Security, Rana Tanveer Hussain, stated that the framework was designed in line with international environmental standards.
